The Modern era is defined as the period of development of toy trains from 1970 until the present. Manufacturers include Lionel, MTH (Mike’s Train House), Atlas, Bachmann, Classic Model Trains (CMT), Classic Model Company (CMC), JAD (John A. Daniels), Marx, McCoy, Pride Lines, Rich-Art, United States Toy Train Company (USTTC), Weaver, and Williams.

Other manufacturers also produced toy trains and accessories. Some articles will overlap eras (PreWar, PostWar, and/or Modern). Articles which overlap eras will be cross-referenced as appropriate.
